LaFerrai at Prescott Hill Climb

LaFerrari

The Ferrari LaFerrari is Ferrari’s flagship car. It is the best Ferrari out there and is everything a Ferrari should be. It has the looks, the speed and the ability to look at home on the race track or on the streets of Monaco.

Like most other leading Ferraris it has a 6.3 litre naturally aspirated V12 which is producing 788bhp, and then with the electric motor producing 160bhp, it has a combined power output of 948bhp. This makes it more powerful than the likes of the Porsche 918 spyder and McLaren P1. In terms of top speed the Ferrari beats both the Porsche and McLaren – the Ferrari has a top speed of over 217mph.

The LaFerrari is an amazing car and at the La Vie en Bleu meet at the Prescott Hill Climb, I was lucky enough to be able to sit in this fabulous car. On the inside and outside it is absolutely amazing to look at. To save weight, the interior of the car is very minimalistic. The seats are on the carbon tub and there are no carpets, just lots of bare carbon fibre on show. The interior of the car isn’t just spectacular to look at, it’s incredibly driver focused especially with the screens and the square carbon fibre steering wheel with Ferrari’s usual array of buttons.

Having seen and now sat in a LaFerrari I am even more jealous of the 499 lucky people who own not just a brilliant car but a piece of beautiful Italian design. As I’m only 13 it’s going to be a long time before I could drive one, but I can still dream about being a passenger in the ultimate hypercar.

Mercedes SLR

The Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 (to give it its full name) is an incredibly special and quick car, it name can be linked to Stirling Moss, it has a top speed of over 200mph. I have seen a few SLRs but only in Dubai where a car like this is not so special.

This car shares it name with the 7:22am start time of the 1955 Mille Miglia a 1000 mile race around  Italy. The reason Mercedes made this car was to celebrate Sir Stirling Moss’s huge victory in the event driving the 300SLR.

The Mercedes SLR is an incredibly quick car, it first came into to production in 2006 and still punches above its weight today. When Mercedes SLR, first came out it had a V8 engine producing 617bhp a 0-60mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 208mph. Mercedes decided that it wasn’t good enough so formed a partnership with McLaren to make the car quicker. Now the car has another 33 horsepower bumping it up to 650bhp. This power increase has also had an effect on performance taking 0.2 seconds of the 0-60 time, this gives it a new time of 3.6 seconds. This also raised the top speed by 1mph to 209mph.

I took this picture in Knightsbridge late August 2015 while on a car spotting trip to London.

This car is has to go on my wish list of all time greats to go in, anybody reading my posts got one?

Robby Gordon's Car after rolling it at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015

Robby Gordon

Robby Gordon Festival of Speed 2015

Watch my latest Youtube video of Robby Gordon rolling his car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed June 2015.  Robby was out having a pre display warm up when disaster struck.
I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to capture this video. This video is exclusive to Planet Ollies Youtube channel.
I’m very happy to say that Robby Gordon only suffered minor cuts and bruises and no long term injuries.

Please subscribe to my Youtube channel to see regular posts on all things car.

Porsche in Cambridge

In August 2015 I went around a few car showrooms one of them been Porsche Cambridge, they are actually in Harston just outside of Cambridge. In the Porsche showroom there were lots of the Panemera diesels, they are saloon cars can they really be classified as a sports cars? Performance is not bad with a 0-60 in 6 seconds (an eternity compared to the electric Tesla model S time of 3.1 seconds) and a top speed of 160mph. In the showroom there were several 911s. The model in my photograph is a 911 GT3. The GT3 is slightly slower than the GT3 RS but not so slow with a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 196mph.

One problem I have with Porsche is the designs, some of the models never change, take the 911 it has always been a familiar shape. Lets hope the 911 facelift model being released at the Frankfurt motor show looks a little bit different. The design of the 911, Cayman and Boxter have a very similar look to the back end. It’s almost like they sat down with one drawing and said how many different models can we make from this one “Beetle” design with a couple minor changes.

Is it time for Porsche to move away from the rear tail heavy design? Bearing this in mind Porsche are very good at making hypercars, lets just hope they get a 918 in the showroom sometime soon. I could be tempted to pay them another visit, wonder if they would let me have a sit in it… ? Watch this space and I will keep you informed.

I have to say, I’m loving the orange colour of the 911!

Aston Martin Cambridge

My dad has been promising to take me to Aston Martin in Harston, Cambridge to have a look at some of their cars. Finally in the last week of August 2015 I got to go and have a look round. There were some stand out cars for me, the first was a James Bond Livery Aston Martin N430 the car has a V8 engine that produces 430bhp that gives the car a 0-60 time 4.8 seconds. The other car that stood out was a Vanquish that has a 6.0 litre V12 that produces 568bhp a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 201mph.

Aston Martin make some great looking cars, I’m just hoping that one day soon I will get to have a ride in one. Better still, own one in a few years from now 🙂

I wonder if they are looking for any young keen trainee sales people???

Tesla Cambridge

Tesla in Cambridge

Tesla in Cambridge?
Cambridgeshire isn’t the first place you would think of for supercars but it does have some.
In August Tesla came to Cambourne in Cambridgeshire and were offering 2 hours of information on the car and a test drive. A lot of you may think that a Tesla Model S isn’t a supercar but in a race to 60mph it would beat or match most supercars with a 0-60 time 3.1 seconds! The Tesla is a four door electric car, bearing this in mind it makes its petrol cousins like the Aston Martin Rapide and the new Maserati Quttroporte look like snails.

The Tesla really is a wolf in sheeps clothing. This is a supercar!
